Triumph has taken the wraps off the 2021 Street Scrambler 900.
It gets a special variant too, called the Sandstorm Edition, which will be limited to just 775 units worldwide.
For 2021, the bike sees revisions to the engine to meet Euro-5 norms as well as styling updates.
Triumph has taken the wraps off the 2021 version of its famed off-road bike, the Street Scrambler 900. The Street Scrambler is Triumph’s Street Twin-based offering with improved off-road capabilities. The British bikemaker has made some tweaks to the overall package and also introduced a special variant, called the Sandstorm Edition, for 2021. Let’s dive into the details.
Aesthetically, the Triumph Street Scrambler looks a lot like the Street Twin. The round headlamp, overall stature, and tank shape all come from the Street Twin, while elements such as a ribbed split seat, top-mounted twin straight pipes, and bash plate help it stand out from its road-biased cousin.
To spruce things up, Triumph has thrown in a new aluminium number board, brushed aluminium headlight brackets, and a new heel guard.
The seat has also been updated for 2021 with a mix of leather and textile for the seat cover.
The Street Scrambler also gets three new colours: Urban Grey, Matt Khaki/Matt Ironstone, and Jet Black.
The feature list also sees several additions. The bike comes with LED lighting, ride by wire, switchable ABS, a USB charger, immobiliser, and a semi-digital instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster helps toggle through the three riding modes (Rain, Road and Off-road) as well as switchable traction control.
Being an off-road bike, the Street Scrambler gets a wider, taller handlebar and a 19-inch front wheel. Spoke wheels and Metzeler Tourance dual-purpose tyres also come standard on the Scrambler. Unlike most ADV bikes, the Street Scrambler has a pretty low and accessible seat height of just 790mm.
The tubular twin-cradle frame of the Scrambler is sprung on a telescopic fork and dual-shock absorbers, the latter being preload adjustable. Both ends offer 120mm of travel.
The Street Scrambler is essentially powered by the same twin-cylinder motor as before, but it gets several internal tweaks to make it Euro-5 compliant. However, there’s been no drop in power. The motor still puts out a respectable 65PS and 80Nm. The highlight of the motor is that most of the 80Nm of torque is available from as low as 3200rpm!
Finally, the Street Scrambler Sandstorm Edition packs all the aforementioned bits and pays homage to the bloodline of Triumph Scrambler desert rides. It comes with a special certificate of authenticity with the VIN, a unique three-tone colourway, and standout accessories such as a higher front mudguard, sump guard, tail tidy, headlight grille, and knee pads on the tank.
Since the previous-gen Street Scrambler was available in India, we expect the 2021 variant as well to hit Indian shores soon. It could see a slight bump in price, to about Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike is a natural rival to the Ducati Scrambler 800.
