It will be based on VW’s MQB A0-IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Vision IN.
Expect it to get the latest technology such as connected car software, LED lighting, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Expected to be powered by VW’s 1.0-litre 110PS turbo-petrol and 150PS 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engines.
Volkswagen India has listed the upcoming Taigun SUV on its website. The compact SUV will be built on VW’s new localised MQB A0-IN platform and will be the carmaker’s first SUV to be made in the country. The Taigun was first showcased at Auto Expo 2020 and will go on sale early next year.
Underpinned by the same platform as its concept-based sibling, Skoda Vision IN, the Taigun’s styling is based on the China-spec T-Cross. Inside, it could get a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Expect the German-made SUV to feature the latest tech in the form of connected car software, LED lighting all around, and ambient lighting.
Under the hood, we can expect it to be powered by the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 110PS and 175Nm, as seen in the Polo, Vento and Rapid. Transmission options will consist of a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter. The other powertrain that could be offered with the Taigun is the 1.5-litre TSI engine which puts out 150PS in the Karoq and T-Roc, mated to a standalone 7-speed DSG gearbox.
The SUV is part of Volkswagen’s India 2.0 strategy which aims to improve the otherwise limited success of the German brand. Volkswagen plans on going strong with its newest strategy right off the bat, with the Taigun matching up against heavyweights like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Since it will be heavily localised, expect it to be competitively priced starting around the Rs 10 lakh mark.
