  • Facelifted VW Tiguan likely to be priced from Rs 28 lakh.
  • It will be powered by a 190PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DSG.
  • Comes with new features like matrix LED headlights, 30-colour ambient lighting, and connected car tech.
  • It will rival the Citroen C5 Aircross and Jeep Compass.

Select Volkswagen dealers have unofficially begun bookings of the facelifted 5-seater Tiguan for a token of Rs 50,000. The upcoming SUV was unveiled in March and initially expected to reach showrooms in May. Unfortunately, the surge in Covid-19 cases across the country led to its launch being pushed to June

The significant change has been under the hood. The facelifted 5-seater SUV will run on petrol, unlike the pre-facelift model that glugged diesel. It has now been provided with a 190PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that will drive all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG.

On the outside, the Tiguan has got subtle styling updates. The new angular matrix LED headlamps and redesigned bumpers lend a sporty look to the front profile. Moving on to the side, changes are limited to the new 18-inch alloy wheels. At the back, you see the redesigned tail lamps and rear bumper.

Fun Fact: The Tiguan will be the first VW in India to sport the carmaker’s new logo.

Inside, you can feast your eyes on the new digital driver’s display, touch-based climate controls, and the new steering wheel. The basic dash layout remains unchanged. But that is great, considering the design is smart yet minimalistic.

New and improved features in the facelifted Tiguan include a 30-colour ambient lighting, connected car tech, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, powered driver’s seat, tri-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and a slidable rear bench.

Passenger safety is taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring.

The new Tiguan will likely be priced from Rs 28 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in the same price bracket as the Jeep Compass and Citroen C5 Aircross. The SUV will also serve as an alternative to the upcoming Skoda Octavia.
