It’s almost impossible to dislike neo-retro motorcycles, even if one’s from a Chinese brand. Just like the 2021 Zongshen RE3 launched in China alongside its mid-size ADV cousin. Let’s have a look at what the RE3 is all about.
Complementing the overall curvy design, the RE3 continues to sport a round headlight with a projector bulb and LED DRLs around it. Adding to the retro panache is the single-piece seat covered in ribbed pattern leather. With the handlebar pulled close to the rider and the neutrally-set footpegs, the RE3 offers a fairly upright riding posture.
Apart from the dual-exhaust setup, the ‘400’ sticker on the panel below the seat and the chopped rear fender also add up very well to the visual appeal of the bike.
Zongshen has powered the RE3 with a liquid-cooled 377.8cc twin-cylinder motor that belts out 36PS of power and 35Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
Suspension duties are handled by a USD front fork and a pair of gas-charged rear springs. Braking on the RE3 is done by front and rear discs with dual channel ABS as standard. Zongshen offers the bike with 17-inch spoked wheels as well as the same-sized alloys. It gets an impressive fuel tank capacity of 19 litres.
Lastly, the base variant of the bike retails at CNY 29,800 (approximately Rs 3.41 lakh). While it's certainly not heading to our shores, it’s fair to say that the current 300-400cc offerings in India make more sense. In a related development, the 2022 KTM 390 Duke has been spotted testing. You can read about it here.
