The Maruti Dzire and Baleno sit in two different segments and are sold from the carmaker’s Arena and Nexa dealerships, respectively. Despite belonging to different segments, the sub-4m sedan and the premium hatchback share many similarities, especially given their comparable price range. However, with its latest generational update, the Dzire introduces a list of things that the Baleno misses out on.
While we’ve previously compared the specifications of both cars in detail, this time we’ll stick to the Dzire’s additional features to determine if they give it an edge over its sibling hatchback. Let’s dive in!
The new Dzire debuts a single-pane sunroof – a first in its segment and even among the family’s hatchback lineup. This much-desired feature is sure to make the Dzire a more appealing option for Indian buyers. While the sunroof can be opened electrically, we recommend using it mainly for allowing light and fresh air to enter and nothing else.
The new Dzire also features a wireless phone charger, adding another layer of convenience for its occupants. It eliminates the clutter of tangled wires when charging your devices and proves especially handy during long drives.
One area where the Dzire outshines its family siblings is safety. It is currently the safest Maruti car with a 5-star rating and offers six airbags as standard across all four variants. In contrast, the Baleno provides six airbags only in its higher-spec variants.
To monitor your car’s tyre pressure, you’d have to opt for an accessory addition in the Baleno while the new Dzire has it already equipped right from the factory.
The Dzire now comes equipped with a shark-fin antenna, replacing the traditional ones still found on the Maruti Baleno. This small detail enhances the car’s aesthetics, giving it a cleaner and more modern look.
Thanks to its sedan body style, the Dzire offers a larger boot space of 382 litres compared to the Baleno's 318 litres. For those who pack extra luggage on trips, the Dzire is undoubtedly the better choice. However, the rear seats in the Dzire don’t fold down for additional space like they do in the Baleno hatchback.

These extra features certainly give the Dzire an edge, but it’s important to remember that the Dzire and Baleno cater to different needs and preferences, with each offering unique strengths. Should the Baleno receive an update in the future, it might include these features or even more, reigniting the competition between the two.
