Tata Motors has introduced updated model years for several of its cars, including the Tiago and Tigor. While these two vehicles sit in different segments and aren't direct competitors, both are well-suited for the Indian urban roads. Usually, urban commuters are not the torque-infused enthusiasts who would look out for a lot in performance. Rather their use case of in-city commutes and office trips seek for good efficiency, safety and creature comforts onboard that satisfy the families.
In this article, we compare the Tiago and Tigor to help you decide which Tata model might be the better choice when put into contention. Let’s check.

Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8.2 lakh |
Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9.5 lakh |
The Tigor sedan comes with a price premium of up to Rs 1.3 lakh over the Tiago hatchback. Both models have received updated lineups, with the Tiago now available in six broad variants and the Tigor now offered in five distinct variants. So the city customers get a good range of options to choose from, let alone the many colour options tagged along. You can check that in our previous story.

As a sedan, the Tigor understandably has a longer length and wheelbase compared to the Tiago. However, this shouldn’t necessarily translate to significantly more cabin space, as a portion of the length is utilized for the larger boot in Tigor which is almost double that of the Tiago. Both cars have the same width, while the Tiago is slightly taller than the Tigor.
If you have a larger family and frequently go on long drives with plenty of luggage, the Tigor would be the better choice. However, if you need a car that's easier to manoeuvre through crowded streets or fits better in tight parking spaces, the Tiago is likely to find your preference.

Both the Tiago and Tigor come with a solid set of features, sharing many similarities. However, the Tigor stands out with a more premium infotainment system of the same size, double the number of speakers, a rear-centre armrest with cupholders, a 360-degree camera, and ISOFIX child seat mounts–features not available in the Tiago. On the other hand, the Tiago has an edge with a rear wiper and washer, which the Tigor lacks.
If you're willing to spend a little extra for added features and a more premium experience, the Tigor offers several advantages, as highlighted above. On the other hand, if you're looking to press on your budget without compromising a lot of value, the Tiago is definitely a good fit.
Both the Tata Tiago and Tigor are equipped with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which puts out 86 PS and 113 Nm. For transmission choices, it has a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automated manual transmission. Additionally, both cars are available with factory-fitted CNG options. In CNG mode, the same engine produces a reduced output of 73 PS and 95 Nm, and is paired to similar manual and automatic transmission. This makes them a practical choice for buyers seeking better fuel efficiency and lower running costs.
In conclusion, the Tata Tiago and Tigor have minimal differences under the hood, as they share the same engine options with identical power and torque outputs. For driving enthusiasts, this means performance will feel largely similar. However, if you’re looking for a car with enhanced comfort and additional features, the Tigor has the upper hand. On the other hand, the Tiago’s compact size makes it a better choice for navigating city traffic with ease. Ultimately, the decision depends on your specific needs and how you plan to use the vehicle.
