The Mahindra Thar Roxx has been launched and it has attracted a considerable amount of attention, not just because it’s an extended version of the 3-door Thar, but because it offers much more in terms of features, safety, powertrain, and design. Its spy shots fueled significant anticipation, particularly around its design and how it would stand apart from its smaller sibling. Interestingly, while it doesn’t diverge much from the 3-door model, the Thar Roxx retains much of its initial design sketches.
In this report, we’ll explore how its exterior and interior have evolved from early sketches to the production version.
When comparing the design sketches and the production Thar Roxx side by side, you'll notice that the production model loses some of the robust character shown in the initial sketches.
Especially at the front, where sketches reveal a more beefy design thanks to the chunkier wheel arches and a more upright stance. Nevertheless, the production Thar Roxx retains much of its sketch-inspired front, featuring a redesigned six-slat grille, C-shaped LED DRLs, and a tougher-looking bumper. However, the LED headlamps are not as sleek in the final product as they were shown in the initial sketches.
Moving to the profile, the Thar Roxx sticks to its sketches with the ten-spoke alloy wheel design, dual-tone roof, and squared-off wheel arches. However, a luggage rack, as shown in the image above, could have further enhanced its muscular appearance. Let us know if you would like Mahindra to add it to its official accessory list. One thing to note is that in some of the design sketches, the size of the alloy wheels has been exaggerated to accentuate the design of the off-roader.
The rear design of the Thar Roxx continues the theme, with most elements retained from the sketches. It features redesigned square-shaped LED taillamps, which are the primary differentiator from the 3-door model. The all-black rear bumper shown in the sketches has been replaced with a one featuring contrasting silver elements in the production model.
Coming on to the interior sketches, the cabin and dashboard layout of the production Thar Roxx mirrors the initial designs. Key features include a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a three-spoke steering wheel borrowed from the XUV700, bench seating layout for rear-seat passengers and grab handles for easier ingress and egress. Additionally, the Thar Roxx boasts a panoramic sunroof that further enhances its appeal to a wider audience.
However, there is one key differentiator here. While in the sketches the door grab handles are shown white, along with the inside door handles, in the production version these grab handles are finished in grey, and the door handles in chrome.

Mahindra is yet to announce the prices for the four-wheel-drive variants of the Thar Roxx. As for the rear-wheel-drive variants, prices range between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 20.49 lakh (introductory,ex-showroom). The Thar Roxx rivals the likes of the Force Gurkha 5-door while being a larger and more premium alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
