.) Smallest diesel engine: For the Celerio, Maruti Suzuki didn’t want to take the same approach as Chevrolet and plunk the downsized version of the popular Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel mill. So they decided to go all out and develop an all new 2-cylinder unit that displaces 793cc. It makes 47.6PS of power and 125Nm of torque all of which is transferred to the front wheels with the help of a 5-speed manual transmission. To ensure that the Celerio diesel doesn’t put on too much weight and thereby fall back in terms of performance, it has been built with aluminium.
.) Most fuel Efficient Car: Not only is this new mill the smallest diesel engine, with an ARAI claimed efficiency of 27.62kmpl, it is also the most fuel efficient. When Maruti Suzuki launched the Ciaz last year, it replaced the Beat as the most efficient car with a claimed figure of 26.21kmpl. But now with the launch of the new Celerio, it is the small hatchback offering that takes the crown.
.) Engine Sharing: Aside from that fact that it is the smallest diesel engine, it holds a lot more value for Maruti Suzuki. While the Celerio has been doing fairly well on the sales charts, it is the Alto K10 and the Wagon R that still bring better numbers. And it is only a matter of time before this same unit is plunked into both these offerings.
.) Loaded with features: Despite being an entry-level hatchback, the Celerio comes with many features. The top-end trim has been equipped with steering mounted controls, four speakers, keyless entry and more. The top-of-the-line variant in petrol as well as diesel get two airbags up front. For improved braking, Maruti Suzuki has also installed the Celerio with ABS. Aside from that, although it sports a single DIN audio system it has Bluetooth, AUX as well as USB connectivity.
.) Competitive Pricing: For all that it offers, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel has been launched at a starting price of just Rs 4.65 lakh making it the most affordable diesel offering in the country currently. In fact, the top-of-the-line variant too has been priced considerably cheaper than its immediate competition the Chevrolet Beat and the Hyundai Grand i10.
