India’s ace touring car racer, Aditya Patel, who is racing in the Audi R8 LMS Cup, will be heading to the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand. The championship will resume this weekend with its Round 2. The Chennai-based driver aims for a podium finish in this upcoming race and is sponsored by Audi India and JK tyres.
Speaking of the upcoming race, Aditya said, "The first round of the championship didn't really go as per plan but I did manage to get a lot of information about the new car and have been working on it over the last two months. Although I have not been to Buriram, I've watched a few videos and it definitely seems like a circuit that I would be comfortable with. A Podium or even a win is possible this weekend! It's the most competitive grid in the series since its inception and it's anybody's game!”
The Round 1 consisted of two races. In Race 1, Aditya started sixth on the grid and quickly climbed to the fifth spot. However, he lost the spot and was pushed back to the eighth place as he was forced to go wide at one of the corners by other racers. He ultimately finished seventh in the race, while Martin Rump won his debut race, ahead of Marchy Lee (second) and Rahel Frey (third).
In the second race, Chennai-based Patel started at eighth place on the grid and was only able to climb two spots in the pack till the finish line. It was because of these two races (races 1 and 2) that he was able to manage 14 points. Frey, who stood third in the first race, won this one ahead of Picariello (second) and Yoong (third).
In the championship standings, Rahel Frey rules the roost with 40 points, while Patel stands at seventh.
