AGV has introduced an all-new LCD visor for its range of helmets. According to the Italian helmet manufacturer, the new LCD visor is an easy solution for riders who ride in varying light conditions. The new LCD visor allows the rider to manually change the tint of the visor thereby adjusting to the altering light settings. The technology behind the varying of tint is called electrochromatics which employs a thin LCD film on the visor. The tint can be nil, similar to clear visors, half-dark and full-dark depending on the user’s needs. Power is supplied to the LCD visor through a rechargeable battery which provides 55 hours of half-dark and 12 hours of full-dark operation. The batteries can be recharged via a mini USB connector.
But the AGV LCD visor also faces the same trouble as in the case of other LCD visors which is pricing. The AGV LCD visor has been priced at €200 or almost Rs 15,000. The LCD visor can be fitted on the AGV GT Veloce, Pista or Corsa range of helmets. The AGV LCD visor does eliminate the need of carrying different tints of visor while out on a ride. But the Rs 15,000 premium means it’s better to carry a spare visor than shelling out such atrocious amount of money for a visor. Having said that, with advancement in technology and reduction of manufacturing cost, we can hope that LCD visors would become more affordable in the near future.
