Cyberpunk 2077 is finally here and let us just say right off the bat, it has lived up to all the hype… at least most of it that is. Sure, in its present state it’s a bit buggy, but there’s no denying that the streets of Night City, dystopian as they may be, are a pretty sight, at least if you’re playing the PC version. And to roam these streets, CD Projekt Red has provided a tonne of retro-futuristic vehicles. Now we’ve already done a story on the best looking vehicles from the game. Of course, being an open-world RPG, driving is only a part of the overall Cyberpunk 2077 experience. But being bikers, we can’t get enough of roaming around the streets of Night City on two wheels. Here’s what the game has to offer:
Arch Nazare CD
Now this was the first bike that I encountered in the game, being ridden by V’s partner Jackie in one of the game’s earlier missions. It’s based on the very much real-world Arch Method 143. It is a gorgeous bike to start with, no doubt, and CD Projekt Red has appropriately ‘futurised’ it for the game. And to make the experience as authentic as possible, the company also captured audio from the real-world bike. But what makes it doubly cool is that Arch Motorcycle was founded by Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves, who also stars in Cyberpunk 2077 as the rocker Johnny Silverhand. The game features three different variants of the bike with different colour schemes and some slight visual differences.
Brennan Apollo
In the world of Cyberpunk 2077, the Brennan Apollo is available in two distinct variants, rather imaginatively named ‘Road’ and ‘Off-road’. Now it’s clear that the inspiration for these motorcycles is a bit Bavarian and a bit Italian. The Italian connection can be seen in the bike’s hub-centre steering front suspension that’s a nod to Vyrus, while the trellis frame is very much early-2000s Ducati Multistrada. On the other hand, the road-going version’s bodywork does bear a slight resemblance to the BMW R NineT Cafe Racer. And while at a quick glance the off-road version gives off BMW GS vibes, the design actually resembles the upcoming Harley-Davidson Pan America more than anything else.
Yaiba Kusanagi CT3-H
We think the Yaiba Kusanagi CT3-H is the most “cyberpunk-esque” motorcycle that you can find in the game, and that’s not just because it’s the first bike we saw in Cyberpunk 2077’s E3 gameplay footage. It’s got more to do with the low-slung body and the red aesthetic that’s clearly a nod to Kaneda’s bike from the quintessential 80’s Japanese cyberpunk manga/anime, Akira. And there’s the name itself - an homage to Major Motoko Kusanagi, the lead character in another extremely iconic Japanese cyberpunk manga/anime, Ghost in the Shell. Two of our favourite cyberpunk references in our favourite cyberpunk videogame (sorry Deus Ex!)? Yes please!
Cyberpunk 2077 is out now on PC, Xbox One and PS4, with PS5 and Xbox Series X launches slated for early 2021. But if you have a powerful enough computer, we’d recommend you get the PC version. So wake up Samurai, we’ve got bikes to ride!
