Renowned riding gear manufacture Alpinestars unveiled its new Tech-Air Street Airbag System Vest. The new riding jacket is based on the latest generation of protection based upon the company’s Tech Air Race Airbag System used in its MotoGP/World Superbike. Unlike the race-spec suits the Alpinestars Tech-Air Street Airbag System Vest has been designed for everyday use, in both on and off-road environments. The riding manufacturer has invested close to 13 years in R&D and more than three lakh km of road testing in development of the jacket. The Alpinestars Tech-Air Street Airbag System Vest has a self contained airbag system that cushions the impact in case of a crash to better protect the rider from injuries. You can see how the jacket performs in an accident from the video link below.
The Alpinestars Tech-Air Street Airbag System Vest isn’t the first street riding jacket with an airbag system as its arch rival Dainese offers one. But what distinguishes the Tech-Air Street Airbag System Vest is the fact that its airbag system independently functions without the need for sensors to be installed on the bike. This gives the rider the liberty to use the Tech-Air Street Airbag System Vest on any motorcycle of his choice unlike the Dainese jacket. Alpinestars claims that the Tech-Air street airbag system gives the rider comprehensive protection in a crash by covering the full back, shoulders, kidney areas and chest. Maximum inflation of the airbag takes just 25 milliseconds and the pressure in the airbag is maintained for five seconds post inflation.
Alpinestars claims that the system performs best, ranges from 25 to 90 kph, speeds at which the majority of the crashes take place. Other than charging the battery, no setup or service is required unless the bag is activated. The Alpinestars Tech-Air Street Airbag System Vest has been priced at Rs 92,000 in the European market with sales starting from spring 2015. The riding jacket has been priced at a premium owing to its technology and prices are expected to come down in near future as Alpinestars plans to introduce the Tech-Air Street Airbag System in its other range of riding jackets as well.
