The RS 660 Concept was one of the hottest talking points of the 2018 EICMA. It suggested Aprilia’s entry into the world of middleweight supersports as until now the company was only present in the litre-class and the 125cc segment. Hints of the RS 660 arriving as a 2020 model were flooding the internet. But now it seems like the bike is on track to make its global debut at 2019 EICMA as a production-ready version of the bike was seen at an Aprilia event.
What makes the RS 660 so special is the fact that Aprilia have gone for a parallel-twin configuration for its supersport. It has made use of the front bank of cylinders from the 1100cc V4 motor that is found on the latest-gen RSV4 1100 Factory, which we rode earlier this year. By adopting a parallel-twin and not a V-twin, Aprilia has managed to make quite a compact motorcycle which is evident from the images.
A big technological advancement with the RS 660 will be the Noale-based manufacturer kitting the bike with active aerodynamics. It is said to produce maximum downforce while high speed cornering but not offer too much drag on straights. Click here to know more about the RS 660.
One of the main reasons Aprilia is releasing the RS 660 is to do with the fact that it was to cater to developing markets. That means not only will it be suited for Europe and North America but also for Asian markets, including India. Given that it is still an exotic and will arrive in India via the CBU route, expect it to cost around Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom).
