Aprilia has added another model to its maxi-scooter range -- the SXR 50. Yes, a 50cc maxi-scooter -- let that sink in. However, if it wasn’t for the stickers, you probably wouldn’t be able to differentiate the baby SXR from the 125 or the 160, for that matter.
The Italian brand has gone no holds barred, fitting in a tiny Euro-5 compliant, 50 cc single-cylinder engine in the bulky cladding borrowed from the existing SXR lineup. It makes 3.26PS and 3.3Nm. For reference, the TVS XL 100 makes 4.4PS and 6.5Nm from its 99.7cc engine.
It gets a three-piece LED headlight with DRLs, placed right below the front windshield, the same as the SXR 160. Even the LCD instrument console is the same, featuring a speedometer, odometer, ambient temperature readout, fuel level bar, and average fuel consumption and average speed readouts.
The Aprilia SXR 50 uses a telescopic front fork and a 5-step adjustable rear monoshock setup. Braking hardware consists of a 220mm front disc and a 140mm rear drum. The maxi scooter rides on 12-inch alloys wrapped in 120/70 section tyres.
.
Buyers can also get the Aprilia MIA connectivity system as an accessory, which affords Bluetooth-enabled smartphone connectivity. The SXR 50 has a seat height of 775mm and an underseat storage capacity of 20 litres.
Aprilia won’t get the baby SXR to India for a few reasons. Firstly, the country’s maxi-scooter market is still fledgeling, and Aprilia’s current offering is already a bit too pricey for what it offers. So, the price of the SXR 50 could be a major hindrance. That said, the company will soon launch the SXR 125 here in India, and here’s all you need to know about it.
