Thank you Aprilia for making this year’s expo a bit lively with your SXR160. We know it’s just a maxi scooter, but at least there was something new at the Italian brand’s stall. And it’s not a concept scooter. Instead, this is an India-specific scooter that is set to be launched by the end of this year. And here’s everything you need to know about it.

The SXR160 is Aprilia’s first maxi scooter for India:
Aprilia has two scooters on sale in India and both of them are sporty offerings. With the SXR160, Aprilia is tapping in to the maxi scooter segment. And being a maxi scooter, it gets a long seat, a stretched out floorboard and an enormous windscreen. The SXR160 might work for the brand as it will be the only 160cc maxi scooter out there.
Gets tonne of features:
Aprilia scooters are sporty, but they aren’t feature-rich considering their high asking price. However, with the SXR160, the brand is planning to change that perception as the maxi scooter gets LED lighting all around, a USB port, alloy wheels and a fully digital instrument console.
Engine and underpinnings:
Under the new maxi scooter-styled body panels is a BS6-compliant SR160. It gets the same 160cc engine as seen on the SR160, but we can expect Aprilia to slightly tune this motor. In the SR160, this motor makes 11PS of peak power and 11.6Nm of peak torque. While the braking hardware is likely to be similar to the SR160, we expect SXR160 to offer a plusher ride than its sibling.
Pricing and availability:
Aprilia has announced that bookings for SXR160 will begin from August 2020. As far as pricing is concerned, we expect it to cost, well, a lot. Expect an increment of around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 over the BS6-compliant SR160, which retails at Rs 1.04 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).
