Singapore-based startup Argon Transform has unveiled a kit that can convert any helmet into a proper smart helmet! Wondering how? Well, it essentially consists of two modules: one at the front and one at the back, each weighing 150grams. The front camera and the head-up display are integrated into the module up front while the rear unit houses another camera and a battery that can last up to eight hours!
The kit also includes handlebar-mounted switchgear to control the functions of the modules, and the kit also gets smartphone compatibility via the Argon Rider mobile app. With a 100-degree field of vision, the 720p HD camera is capable of recording videos from 30fps to 60fps. At the rear, the camera gets a 160-degree wide-angle vision and is also capable of recording at the same fps as the front camera. In order to minimise lag, the two cameras are connected using a cable.
The HUD displays the live camera feed, and the data can be stored into an SD card. It is also capable of showing navigational maps with visual as well as audio cues. If that wasn’t enough, the HUD even shows the speedometer and speed limit indicator! However, the icing on the cake is that the whole kit is IP65 rated, meaning it’s rainwater-proof as well as dustproof. It doesn’t require any drilling into the helmet either thanks to the inclusion of removable 3M tape mounts. This ensures that the helmet’s structural integrity is retained.

The crowd-funded startup has priced the kit at 543 Singapore Dollar (around Rs 27,450) as an early-bird introductory offer. The kit can be shipped worldwide, but is available only from February 2020 onwards.
There are lots of smart helmets that are available in the market. However, the Argon Transform kit has the distinction of keeping the buyer’s helmet choice intact all the while considerably improving their helmet’s functionality. However, at 300grams, the kit is a bit on the heavier side and if you have an already heavy helmet, using this kit might strain your neck.
