The 6.5-litre V12 hybrid engine helps the open-top hypercar reach top speeds over 330kmph (open-top), and 350kmph (closed top).
Aside from slight iterations to the carbon fibre body and active aero and chassis, the Valkyrie Spider is just as potent around corners as its coupe counterpart.
Open-top setup comprises a removable carbon fibre roof panel, and front-hinged dihedral doors in place of the gullwing doors from the coupe.
Only 85 units will be produced, with deliveries commencing by the second half of 2022.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie hybrid hypercar is already a radical speed machine, but the carmaker has decided to add more options with the Valkyrie Spider’s debut. It is essentially the same insane hybrid hypercar as its coupe counterpart, but in the form of an open-top convertible. So yes, it's the fastest and most extreme open-top model to come out of Aston Martin.
Despite being a convertible, the Valkyrie Spider has managed to retain the ferocity of its coupe counterpart. It combines a Cosworth-made naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine, Rimac-designed KERS hybrid battery system and Integral Powertrain electric motor to deliver a combined 1176PS of grunt with a screaming 11,000rpm redline. So you can experience the screaming V12 in all its glory with the roof off. While a 0-100kmph sprint time hasn’t been revealed, the carmaker claims it can hit top speeds above 330kmph with the roof removed. Put them on, and the top speed jumps up to over 350kmph.
Of course the carmaker had to make a few tweaks to the carbon-fibre structure, active aero, and active chassis settings to incorporate open-top driving. But that hasn’t come at any compromise, as the underbody has Venturi tunnels that act as a massive ground effect diffuser to help generate over a whopping 1400kg of downforce at 240kmph in track mode.
In terms of design, the Valkyrie Spider is nearly identical to its coupe counterpart aside from the obvious removable carbon fibre roof panel. Since it's a convertible, the gullwing doors from the coupe have been replaced with front-hinged dihedral doors that tilt forwards when opened.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider will be an exclusive offering, with only 85 units being produced in both left and right-hand drive derivatives. The carmaker plans on commencing deliveries by the second half of 2022.
