Audi will officially launch the new A3 Cabriolet on December 11 in India. Already a great car, the new A3 cabriolet will attract more audiences with its open top charm and brand appeal. The Audi A3 cabriolet is a 4-seater convertible and will come with a conventional soft top instead of a complex metal folding roof in order to keep the weight down to a minimum. The roof itself opens and closes in under 18-seconds while driving at speeds up to 50kmph. Although the Audi A3 cabriolet will not be the cheapest convertibles in the market, it will certainly be one of the most desirable ones.
The A3 Cabriolet is lighter than the previous generation model due to extensive use of ultra-high-strength steel and generous usage of aluminium. The lightweight construction is also set to extend to the design of the engine and chassis. The engine, a 1.8-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol produces 180PS of peak power and 350Nm of peak torque. There might also be a 2.0-litre 35TDI engine like the one in the sedan.
The Audi A3 cabriolet will also get the same interior that is available on the sedan with a pop up infotainment screen for the Audi MMI and the Bang and Olufsen sound system. The interior will also get a built in wind deflector and neck warmers for the front passengers. On the safety front, the A3 will get active roll over protection along with standard features like ESP, traction control and of course, ABS and airbags. Although we initially expected the Audi A3 to be priced below the Rs 50 lakh mark, reports suggest the soft-top cabriolet will be priced between Rs 50-60 lakh (ex-showroom).
