The entry-level luxury sedan segment in India has pretty much been German monopoly over the years, with the Mercedes-Benz C Class, the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4 (Read : First Drive) aggressively competing for numero uno status, or best-selling status perhaps considering the sales they manage to rake in for their makers.
Audi’s top down strategy has been underway ever since it launched its flagship A8L saloon early in 2011. The tradition continued with the launch of a very splendid looking A7 Sportback and a face-lifted A6 model.
Come May 3, 2012, the German car maker’s 10 million sales strong mid-size luxury sedan will make its foray into the Indian market in an all new guise. Audi has hinted at introducing the model with a 1.8 TFSI (petrol), a 2.0 TDI and a 3.0 TDI engine. They are all better tuned and tweaked on the face-lifted version and should now manage higher power outputs and better efficiency figures.
The face-lifted Audi A4 has been re-styled for better visual appeal, the most apparent of which can be seen on the front end of the car, like its reworked LED running lamps, re-profiled bumpers and a better contoured bonnet design. Those wealthy enough to get behind the wheel of this face-lifted version will benefit from all-new Electromechanical Steering and Audi’s Drive Select feature, the absence of which made the outgoing model feel a bit unconfident to drive in varying conditions.
With the new generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class already picking up steam and the launch of the new sixth-generation BMW 3-series just around the corner, Audi could not have picked a better timeline for the arrival of its new age A4 model. Watch this space for ex-showroom prices and a lot more on the new Audi A4 after its official launch on May 3.
