Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro concept revealed

Audi has pulled the wraps off its new concept - the Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro after quietly slipping in information about its unveil at LA on its official website yesterday. The A7 h-tron quattro concept is actually a fuel cell hydrogen vehicle with a plug-in hybrid setup that gives a glimpse on the future of the fuel cell technology.

While the car looks similar to the Audi A7, the mechanical configuration under the metal sheet is what separates the Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro from the production car.  This new concept pairs a hydrogen fuel cell with an electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The A7 Sportback h-tron quattro can run on pure electricity for 50km, and it can travel 100km on a single kilogram of hydrogen.

This new concept features four hydrogen tanks which are located beneath the trunk. These hydrogen tanks grant the vehicle with a range of more than 500km and once depleted, a full refill takes approximately three minutes. The vehicle also features a regenerative braking system to boost its efficiency even further.

Audi claims that the Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro concept can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 7.9 seconds with a top-speed of 180kmph.

The Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro is a concept vehicle for now and no production plans have been announced by the German carmaker yet.
