Audi has recently dropped a teaser of the new A7 Sportback, leaving us intrigued with the details. It looks quite familiar and from the above image, one can easily confuse it with the older A7 Sportback. The A7 has always been the brand’s most stylish and distinctive looking sedan and flaunts a coupe-like roofline which merges seamlessly into the tail of the car.
The new A7 is expected to draw design cues from its younger sibling, the A5. At the front, for instance, it gets a sharper and edgier front grill flanked by sleek LED matrix headlights with dynamic front turn indicators. The bonnet gets sharp character lines which look quite similar to the A5. At the rear, it gets the same single LED tail light, previously seen on the new A8.
The interior of the car also gets the new Audi treatment in the form of connected AC vents running across the dashboard, previously seen on the new A5. But on the A7, they are slimmer and sleeker than before. Following the footsteps of other Audis, it will most certainly get the new cockpit instrument cluster. The glimpse of the central console we got in the teaser is reminiscent of the one seen on the new A8.
The new A7 will be based on the same MLB Evo platform, seen on the smaller A5, which makes it lighter and more rigid than before. It is expected to be powered by the A8’s 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel engines. Expecting a W12 would be a stretch.
So, if you are waiting to get your hands on the new A7, you will be disappointed, Audi AG has informed us that it has no plans to launch the new A7 in India for now. Audi will be taking the wraps off the new A7 on October 19, 2017 and is expected to debut it publicly at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December 2017.
