In just about all our drives concerning Audi vehicles at Zigwheels, you might have noticed that we have always found the engines to be rather savvy, not just in terms of the horsepower that they pack, but the amount of tech and wizardry involved to make them true jewels in the automotive arena.
Our faith in Audi developed engines has only been reinforced by the fact that the company has been awarded for the fifth time in a row the "International Engine Of The Year Award." The award winning engine happens to be the four cylinder 2.0 TFSI unit which bagged the award in the 1.8-2.0 litre category. Audi has already sold over 1.3 million vehicles fitted with this engine worldwide. According to the jury, the 2.0 TSFI is a complete blend of performance and efficiency which translates into great drivability and great driving pleasure.
The 2.0 TSFI made its grand debut in the summer of 2004 in the Audi A3 Sportback. Since then it has proved to be the engine of choice for many Audi customers and the fact that it is available in other models have only added to its fame.
In India, the engine is available in both the Audi A4 and the recently launched Q5. The engine does have a different state of tuning for both cars (180 hp in the A4 and 211 hp in the Q5) however; the underlying tech and set up are exactly the same.
The three new engines for the Audi A4 are the 3.0 TDI quattro, 2.0 TFSI and the 1.8 TFSI. These engines add to the existing line up which included the 3.2 FSI and the 2.0 TDI, taking the total engine range for the Audi A4 up to five engine offerings.
The new engines offer greater fuel efficiency to the tune of around 10 per cent less fuel consumption than their predecessors. They are cutting edge engines that do duty in other Audi models as well and are now available throughout the Audi range.
Speaking on the introduction of the new engines, Benoit Tires, Managing Director, Audi India, stated, "The Audi philosophy of "Vorsprung durch Technik " showed the way for the new generation of the Audi A4. It has already set benchmarks for its segment in India. With the introduction of three new engines, we are able to offer the widest choice in the luxury car market to our customers in India. It is our constant endeavour to provide our customers with world class products and state-of-the-art technology. The new engines add a new dimension of sophistication and progressiveness to the Audi A4 with more power and lower fuel consumption, guaranteed to deliver an unforgettable driving experience."
With such a wide range of engines, the Audi A4 is set to benefit from a wider customer base. The various offerings cater to both the tech savvy-power hungry enthusiast as well as the mellower mature car connoisseur.
The new engines feature a host of cutting edge technology that allow for an increase in mileage figures and this is mainly due to the inclusion of Audi's modular efficiency system which has reduced internal friction, demand based control of ancillary components, intelligent temperature management, economical power steering and air conditioner drive units as well as an energy recuperation system, which all work in unison to provide an enhanced efficiency.
So, there you have it, not only is the award winning engine available in India, but the fact that there are more engines to choose from for the A4 range goes to show Audi's dedication to the Indian subcontinent. The company has aggressively marketed their products across the country and have proved to be worthy rivals in the luxury car segment.
