Audi is planning to kick-off the new year with a bang. Come North American International Auto Show 2017 or Detroit Auto Show 2017, the German carmaker will present the Q8 Concept. The Audi Q8 Concept is a near-production vehicle from the carmaker that has the styling of a coupe and spaciousness of an SUV. With this, Audi looks to unlock a new segment in the full-size SUV category.
"With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line. Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige," said Audi's head of design, Marc Lichte. "What's more, we believe an important aspect of this show car is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line."
The Q8 should slot above the Q7 when it goes into production. However, what has been shown of the Q8 Concept by Audi seems like another exercise by the automaker in bringing a lot of shapes into play and then merging them together seamlessly. Take, for example, the front end. There are two trapezoidal headlights flanking the top corners of the octagonal grille. Below the headlamps are pentagon-shaped air intakes.
Though the production model is expected to differ from the concept in terms of styling, expect Audi to still come up with a striking style for the Q8. Another important thing to note in the picture is the presence of e-tron on the front splitter of the Q8 Concept. Perhaps this is Audi's way of telling us that there is electrification in the future of this car. Come 2017 Detroit Auto Show in January and we will get to see what Audi has for us in store.
