Remember the legendary rally driver Ken Block, famous for his Gymkhana videos where he pulls off insane stunts inside stunt cars? Well, Audi is partnering with the 53-year-old for the development of its future electric models.
What exactly will come from the partnership hasn’t been detailed, but don’t expect something as mind-blowingly insane as Ken Block’s Ford Mustang Hoonicorn. But with the rally driver’s experience in pushing tail-happy cars to the limit, we might have a driver-focused RS EV in the future.
Also, there were many Dakar references in their announcement, hinting at a possible Gymkhana-like feat in the works. Audi is currently testing the RS Q e-tron off-roader, which will compete in the 2022 Dakar rally.
Going forward, Audi will only manufacture electric vehicles 2026 onwards. Also, the carmaker plans to launch 30 EVs (of which 20 would be all-electric) by the end of 2025, and we have already got a glimpse of that future in the form of the Grand Sphere and Sky Sphere concepts.
