The Audi R8, although phenomenal at what it does, is a supercar that can go tow to toe with the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo, Mclaren 650S, Ferrari 458 and the Lamborghini Huracan. Audi has never really gone beyond that level of performance that is occupied by cars like the McLaren P1, the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 amongst many others. Now though, reports have started to trickle on a possible new hypercar from the Ingolstadt based auto manufacturer.
Stated to be named the R10, rumors suggest that the Audi hypercar will be powered by a 6.0-litre V10 that will develop 850PS and will also feature an electric motor, which will bump up the overall power to over 1000PS. The hybrid electric combination might be similar to the one used in the Porsche 918 since both Porche and Audi are Volkswagen group companies. The engine might also feature technology that will allow the car to run only on four or six cylinders when performance isn’t required.
The highlight of the new Audi hypercar, apart from the performance though will be its LeMans inspired exterior styling. The new car is stated to be larger than the R8 and will feature aero styling from the likes of the dominating R18 generation of LMP1 racecars. Although the new Audi isn’t expected anytime soon, making the Hypercar will not be much of a problem considering Audi has companies like Porsche, Bentley and more importantly, Bugatti to rummage around for parts and technology.
