Skoda Kylaq Breaks Cover With Prices Starting From Rs 7.89 Lakh!

Auto Expo 2020 is just around the corner and the theme for the Expo is clearly cleaner mobility. With BS6 emission norms set to kick in from April 2020, all manufacturers are hard at work upgrading their portfolio to meet stringent emissions. Now that the participating manufacturers list is confirmed, here is the list of BS6 cars that could be seen at India's largest motor show.
Vitara Brezza/S-Cross:
Maruti will reveal the BS6-compliant Vitara Brezza and S-Cross at Auto Expo 2020. Both models are expected to utilise the 1.5-litre K15B engine with Smart-hybrid technology. This engine develops 105PS of torque and 138Nm of torque. Expect both models to be available with a 5-speed manual/4-speed AT.
The BS6-compliant Alto K10 is expected at Auto Expo as it still utilises a BS4-compliant engine. The Alto BS6 will essentially utilise the updated engine from the S-Presso. It develops 68PS of power and 90Nm of torque.
2020 Creta/Verna facelift:

The 2020 Creta and Verna facelift will utilise the BS6 compliant powertrains also seen in the Kia Seltos. That means, one can expect the 1.5-litre CRDI and VTVT options under the hood of both cars. Further, Hyundai will also introduce the silky smoooth 1.4-litre T-GDi engine in the 2020 Creta as well.
Aura:
Yes, we will see the Aura before the Auto Expo. But, the upcoming model will come with three BS6 compliant powertrain options: a 83PS 1.2-litre Kappa, a 75PS 1.2-litre CRDI and a 100PS 1.0-litre T-GDI. Further, we expect the Grand i10 Nios to be offered with the updated diesel and T-GDI engines soon.
The Hyundai Tucson facelift will finally arrive at Auto Expo 2020 after a much long overdue. The updated model is expected to come with the same 2.0-litre CRDI and VTVT engines, albeit upgrades to meet BS6 norms. Currently, the CRDI engine develops 185PS while the VTVT engine develops 155PS.
Kia:
The Kia Carnival MPV is set to be launched at Auto Expo 2020. It’ll be offered with a 2.2-litre CRDI engine that’s good for 202PS and 440Nm. We expect it to be offered with a BS6 compliant unit from day one itself.
QYI:
The QYI could make its presence felt at Auto Expo 2020. It’s expected to utilise the Venue’s 83PS 1.2-litre engine and 125PS 1.0-litre T-GDI unit. On the other hand, the diesel unit is expected to be a detuned version of the Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI engine as Hyundai will discontinue the 1.4-litre unit soon.
Skoda/Volkswagen India:
1.0-litre TSI:
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is all set to introduce the BS6 compliant 1.0-litre TSI engine in India. It develops 115PS of power and 200Nm of torque. Expect this powertrain to be available with a 6-speed MT and 7-speed DSG. This engine will be plonked under the hood of the Polo GT TSI, Vento, Rapid, Vision IN and the T-Cross based SUV.
1.5-litre TSI:
The German carmaker will introduce the new 1.5-litre TSI engine that’s expected to power the T-ROC, Karoq and the 2020 Octavia. This powertrain develops 150PS and 250Nm and could be offered with both manual and DSG options. A mild-hybrid system could be slapped on for additional torque boost.
2.0-litre TSI:
The 2.0-litre TSI engine will be found under the hood of both brand’s flagship models such as the 2020 Passat, Superb facelift, Kodiaq TSI and the Tiguan Allspace.It develops 190PS and 320Nm and will come with a 7-speed DSG only.
The upcoming MG Hector 6-seater and Hector will utilise the same powertrains, albeit upgrades to meet BS6 emission norms. Currently, the Hector is available with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid. Here’s a detailed spec table:

Maxus D90:
The Maxus D90 is expected to come with two engine options: a 2.2-litre twin turbo diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engine. The diesel engine puts out 215PS and 480Nm while the petrol unit churns 224PS and 360Nm. We expect both engines to be BS6 compliant from day one.
Tiago/Tigor facelift:
The Tiago/Tigor will utilise the same 1.2-litre Revotron engine, albeit upgrades to meet BS6 norms. It’s good for 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque. Currently, the updated powertrain will be offered in the upcoming Altroz. In the process, both models will lose their 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel engine as it won’t be upgraded to meet BS6 norms.
Tata’s Nexon facelift takes styling cues from the recently unveiled Nexon EV. Both the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines will be upgraded to meet stringent norms. Currently, the petrol engine develops 110PS and 170Nm while the diesel engine puts out 110PS and 260Nm. Expect to see the updated model at Auto Expo 2020.
Harrier/Gravitas:
The Tata Harrier’s FCA sourced 2.0-litre Kryotec engine will be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms. In its BS6 guise, the engine could be uprated to develop 170PS and 350Nm, 30PS more. We also expect to see the debut of the 6-speed automatic gearbox with the updated engine. Further, the upcoming Gravitas will utilise the same BS6 2.0-litre diesel engine.
The Renault Kwid BS6 is expected to be showcased at Auto Expo 2020. Both the 800cc and 1.0-litre engines are expected to get the upgrade. The smaller 800cc engine develops 54PS and 72Nm while the bigger engine puts out 68PS/91Nm.
Triber/Triber Turbo:
The Triber’s existing 1.0-litre Energy engine will soon get the BS6 upgrade. It currently develops 72PS and 96Nm in its BS4 avatar. Further, Renault will soon introduce it with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that develops 100PS and 160Nm. We expect to see both engines in their BS6 guise.
Duster/Captur:
The Duster and Captur will soon become petrol-only models in BS6 era as Renault will discontinue diesel engines from its existing portfolio. The current 1.5-litre engine currently develops 106PS and 142Nm and is soon expected to get the BS6 upgrade. Expect to see the updated models at Auto Expo.
The BS6-compliant Alturas G4 is expected to debut at Auto Expo. We have already spotted it emission testing in Chennai. The updated model is expected to utilise the existing 181PS 2.2-litre engine, albeit upgrades.
Details about the BS6 Mahindra Marazzo have already been leaked. In its BS6 avatar, the Marazzo develops 121PS and 300Nm. We also expect an automatic variant to join the line later.
XUV:
Mahindra has told us that the XUV will be updated to meet BS6 emission norms. It remains to be seen which XUV will receive the BS6 update first. That said, we expect both the XUV300 and XUV500 to get the stringent update.
Mercedes-Benz is one manufacturer who has pro-actively been upgrading their cars to meet BS6 norms. According to a leaked document, the upcoming 2020 GLE will roll out with BS6-compliant engines from day one. It’ll be offered with two diesel and one petrol engines.
