Just a month after the launch of 2018 Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 and Street 220, Bajaj Auto has launched the all new Avenger Street 180 with a price tag of Rs 83,475 (ex-showroom Maharashtra). The 180cc cruiser will replace the Bajaj Avenger 150.
Commenting on the launch, Eric Vas, the president of Bajaj Auto’s motorcycles business, said “As the segment leader, Bajaj Auto believes in evolving and pushing the envelope. The Avenger Street 180 provides contemporary styling with enhanced power whilst retaining its classic roadster design. The discerning customer gets a definite step-up into the world of classic biking.”
Apart from the glossy red and black paint scheme and new decals, the baby Avenger sports the same styling cues seen on the 2018 Avenger Street 220. It also borrows the headlamp with LED DRLs from the Street 220. The single piece saddle, black alloy wheels and rear rubberised grab rails have also been carried forward.
Powering the Avenger Street 180 is the 178.6cc, single-cylinder DTSi engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Peak power of 15.5PS comes in at 8500rpm while 13.7Nm of torque is generated at 6500rpm.
The Avenger Street 180 sports conventional telescopic forks with friction bush at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Helping the rider bring the cruiser to a halt are a 260mm disc brake at the front and a 130mm drum unit at the rear. Its 17-inch wheels are shod with 90/70 and 130/90 section MRF tyres at the front and rear, respectively. The bike tips the scale at 150kg (kerb), with a fuel tank capacity of 13 litres.
Priced aggressively, the Bajaj Avenger Street 180 undercuts the Suzuki Intruder 150, which retails for Rs 98,340 (ex-showroom Delhi), by a huge margin. But is it the real deal? Stay tuned for our first ride review.
