The Caliber was sold under the Bajaj-Kawasaki partnership from 1998 to 2006 and in March 2021, Bajaj filed a trademark for the name Caliber which has been accepted. So, what exactly has the Indian two-wheeler giant been up to? Well, here’s what we think.
From 1998 to 2003, Bajaj trademarked various names, from ‘Bajaj Caliber’ to ‘Bajaj Caliber 115’ and even ‘Bajaj Caliber 115 Hoodibaba’ (you’d want to check it out on YouTube). However, none of these is now valid. So chances are that with the recent one, Bajaj is just being proactive and securing the rights for future needs.
Or, a Bajaj Caliber 125 could be in the pipeline. Given the number of price hikes in recent years, most 125cc motorcycles have entered the 150cc price territory and the latter too have become more expensive. While Bajaj does have the Pulsar 125 and NS125, the bikes still don’t cater to the mature audience. So this could be the replacement of the now-discontinued Bajaj Discover 125 series.
However, the manufacturer may take a conservative design approach for what could be the Caliber 125. This not only aids Bajaj in competing against the popular Honda Shine and the Hero Splendor but also enlarges its overall customer base.
