Update: Bajaj has launched the Chetak at Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom). The scooter will be available in Pune and Bengaluru first followed by other cities. Know more about the variants, performance and other details here.
Bajaj is all set to launch its first electric product, the Chetak, tomorrow. The electric scooter will be sold through Bajaj’s Probiking dealerships alongside KTM and soon Husqvarna motorcycles. Bookings for the scooter had already commenced last month and Bajaj will begin deliveries this month onwards.

The Chetak stands apart from other electric two wheelers as it comes with a metal body as opposed to the fibre one on the others. Bajaj has not revealed the scooter’s kerb weight and it would be interesting to see how the extra weight affects performance. It gets premium retro styling and looks more Vespa than Bajaj. The scooter gets LED headlamp, LED tail lamp and LED turn indicators. It gets a digital instrument console that apart from the speed shows the battery level and range. Bajaj has even equipped the scooter with keyless ignition.

The Chetak gets a 4kW electric motor. It gets two ride modes: Eco and Sport as well as a Reverse mode. Bajaj claims the scooter offers a real world range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode.
Like Vespas, the Chetak gets a trailing link front suspension. It has 12-inch MRF Zapper tyres on both ends. Braking is via a front disc and rear drum brake. Check out other electric scooters and motorcycles you can buy in India here.
Bajaj will sell the Chetak first in Pune followed by electric startup Ather’s home turf, Bengaluru. We expect the Chetak to be priced around around Rs 1.10 lakh - Rs 1.20 lakh after FAME II subsidies. It will be a good retro alternative to the Ather 450 and upcoming 22Kymco iFlow electric scooters.
