Bajaj had for long wanted to bridge the gap between their performance bikes and the commuter segment, in which they have a stronghold. The Bajaj Discover ST, unveiled in May this year, showcased an altogether new segment entry that mated the best of both worlds – performance of a quarter litre bike and fuel efficiency of a commuter. Looks had always been a grouse with the Discover range but the new 125ST comes across as a well-packaged, neatly designed bike that makes it more appealing than a regular commuter’s conventional (read boring) styling. The Discover 125ST stands out immediately thanks to the aggressive fairing, sharp-edged headlamps, newly designed tank and spider alloys. The monoshock nitrox suspension is a first on any 125cc bike in the country. Other significant highlights include the specially designed ‘Anti Vibration’ frame for better stability, aluminium side sets and petal disc brakes for improved overall safety. Powered by the company patented ‘DTS-I Twin Spark’ technology, the Bajaj Discover 125ST’s four-valve engine delivers 13PS @ 9000 rpm and 11Nm of torque, currently the highest in its segment.
At the unveiling of the Discover 125ST, K Srinivas, President, Motorcycle Business, Bajaj Auto said, “We believe that the average Indian commuter has to compromise a lot for fuel efficiency. With the Discover ST we are making a statement that mileage need not come with a boring design and outdated features.”
As of now, only the ex-showroom price in Tamil Nadu has been announced which is Rs 55,570 though the bike will launched in other states soon in a phased manner. Watch this space for more!
