Bajaj might be late to the 250cc party but boy did the Dominar 250 leave a lasting impression on us! The younger of the two Dominar siblings, the 250 has a lot of things going right for it. It looks great, rides well, and is a better touring companion than the Dominar 400. The bike received a great response on our road test video with a few queries as well. You asked, we answer:
Is the weight too much for novice riders?
Firstly, if you are a novice or a relatively new rider, stay away from jumping right onto a 250cc bike. Learn your trade on something smaller like a 160cc bike and then, upgrade to the segment. For those who are upgrading to larger capacity bikes like the Dominar 250, yes it weighs a bit much. At 180kg wet, it is the heaviest bike in the segment. This weight might not be felt at high speeds while on the highway but when negotiating through city traffic or while parking, it will show off its bulk.
Why does it get skinny tyres?
Bajaj managed to save around 7 kilos from the Dominar 400 to the Dominar 250. Aside from the slimmer USDs and smaller engine, the skinnier tyres too have played their part in reducing the weight. Given that it isn’t meant to be a cornering hustler but more of a power cruiser, the smaller-section tyres work just fine. Aesthetically though, the wider section rubber would have complemented the muscular bodywork of the bike well but then it would have made it heavier, slower and also compromised on the fuel-efficiency front.
Which 250 to buy: Suzuki Gixxer 250 or the Bajaj Dominar 250?
This was one of the most asked questions and one that we have been itching to find out as well. After riding the two bikes individually in isolation, the Gixxer 250 comes off as a polished commuter motorcycle that could be a good companion over the weekends. The Dominar might not be as quick or as light but does the city duties well too. We have to ride the two bikes and will hopefully bring you a definitive answer soon.
When is the Husqvarna Svartpilen/Vitpilen 250 review coming?
It has been almost a year since we first saw the Husqvarna 250 twin in India. The Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 were launched right at the start of the year, a few units were delivered before the first lockdown, and they have also received a price hike. But still, no bikes have come our way. There is a silver lining though as Husqvarna is prepping the media fleet and will soon have it ready for us to have a proper spin on it.
