Bajaj Auto has launched the Pulsar NS160 in the country without much hype. With the Goods and Service Tax set to be implemented from July 1, the Pulsar NS160 will cost Rs 78,368 (ex-showroom New Delhi) and Rs 80,648 (ex-showroom Mumbai). The bike is powered by a 160.3cc, 4-valve, oil-cooled DTS-i engine producing 15.5PS of power at 8500rpm and 14.6Nm of torque at 6500rpm. The engine is nestled inside a pressed steel rigid perimeter frame that ensures superior handling dynamics when compared to conventional frames. The powerplant is mated to a 5-speed gearbox which transfers power to the rear wheel via a chain drive.

Telescopic forks and a Nitrox monoshock take care of the suspension duties, while the the NS160 gets a 240mm disc brake at the front and 130mm drum at the rear. The fuel tank is rated at 12-litres and the bike tips the scales with a kerb weight of 142kg. The 17-inch alloy wheels are shod with 80/100 tyre at the front and a 110/80 section rear tyre.

Commenting on the launch, Eric Vas, president – motorcycles, Bajaj Auto said, “The new generation Pulsar NS160 offers a combination of raw power, aggressive styling and superior performance that no other bike in its segment can match. The bike is designed to cater to the young and dynamic motorcycle enthusiast who is evolved, restless and demands performance and style in his everyday riding routine.”

“Today 70% of the sports biking segment is dominated by the 150-160cc motorcycles. The NS160 will target a fast growing segment of customers who want to stay in this engine capacity band but need the best in technology and performance. The Pulsar brand has been the market leader of sports bikes in India for the last 16 years. With the launch of NS160, we aim to strengthen our leadership in sports motorcycles,” added Vas.

The Pulsar NS160 is the only oil-cooled motorcycle in the 160cc segment and comes in three colours - Saffire Blue, Passion Red and Glossy Pewter Grey. The bike will be available across all Bajaj Auto dealerships in India.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 sits right between the Pulsar 150 and the Pulsar 180. If you take their ex-showroom Delhi price into consideration, the NS160 is Rs 1,525 lesser than the 180. The NS160 makes 1.5PS and 1.2Nm more than the Pulsar 150. The Pulsar NS160’s rivals include the Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Hornet 160R, TVS Apache RTR 160 and Yamaha FZ-S Fi.
