The Bajaj Pulsar CS400 (Cruiser Sport) is among the most important new two-wheeler launches for 2016. The new cruiser motorcycle from Bajaj was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and ever since then has created a lot of curiosity among Indian bikers. Speaking to a website Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto has confirmed that the new Pulsar CS400 will be launched in India next month. The new motorcycle is an important bike for Bajaj Auto as it starts to kick-start a new segment of affordable power cruisers in India and the CS400 holds the distinction of being the largest displacement Bajaj motorcycle in its portfolio.
The design inspiration for the motorcycle is varied; the headlamp and front fairing come across as an evolution of the Pulsar 200 NS design and so does the longer fuel tank. But, overall, the Pulsar CS 400 reminds one of a scaled down Diavel from Ducati. The end result is a motorcycle that looks stunning. The new CS400 will also get a Diavel inspired tank mounted digital display for speed and gear position while the handlebar mounted digital display gets tachometer, trip meter, fuel gauge and other details. It will be also the first Bajaj motorcycle to get equipped with LED headlamp while the turn indicators and taillight unit is also LED. The production-spec Pulsar CS400 employs conventional telescopic forks instead of the USD forks as seen on the concept bike to keep cost low while the exhaust muffler has also been redesigned.
As for the powertrain, the Bajaj Pulsar CS400 will share its 375cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with the KTM 390 Duke. Though, the engine will be retuned to suit the characteristics of a power cruiser with a maximum torque of around 33Nm and peak power figures of around 35PS. The powerplant will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox with gear ratios tuned to offer better low-end power delivery. The Pulsar CS 400 is based on the same platform as the KTM 390 Duke. So, the engine and the chassis are shared. But, to give the CS 400 a power cruiser stance, the Pulsar has a more raked out front end and a longer rear swingarm. ABS will be an optional extra on the new Bajaj motorcycle and we expect the new Pulsar CS400 to be priced between Rs 1.5 lakh and 1.7 lakh ex-showroom.
