Bajaj has been preparing its new power cruiser offering, the Pulsar CS400, which is expected to be launched later this month. Now, according to the leaked brochure of the power cruiser, the production version of the motorcycle will be called the Pulsar VS400. Apart from the leaked brochure, an ARAI report also confirms the power output of the power cruiser. The motorcycle will be powered by the 373cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that has been borrowed from the KTM 390 Duke. The engine of the VS400 will be capable of producing max power of 34.5PS, which is around 10PS less than the KTM engine. Although the power figures are lower, it can be expected that, to suit the characteristics of the VS400, the engine will offer better low-end torque for smooth cruising.

Design-wise, the production model of the VS400 is very similar to the concept that was unveiled by Bajaj at the 2014 Auto Expo. The power cruiser gets a full LED headlight as well as LED taillight assembly with side indicators, which is a first on a Bajaj motorcycle. It features a dual instrument cluster, wherein the speedometer and gear indicator are located on a display situated above the fuel tank, while the other information, such as tachometer, trip meter, fuel gauge are displayed on the all-digital unit positioned between the handlebars. In order to keep costs low, Bajaj will be offering the VS400 with conventional telescopic forks instead of the USDs seen on the concept bike. Braking will be done by disc brakes at both ends and the bike will be equipped with dual-channel ABS.
The Pulsar VS400 will be the highest displacement Bajaj motorcycle in its product range till date, and also an important one since it will begin a new segment of affordable power cruisers in the country. The Pulsar VS400 is likely to be launched later this month and is expected to carry a sticker price ranging between Rs 1.5 and 1.7 lakh, ex-showroom. Competition-wise, considering the purpose and pricing of the motorcycle, the Bajaj Pulsar VS400 will go up against the likes of the Mahindra Mojo and the Royal Enfield range of bikes.
