Bajaj will position the new Bajaj Pulsar CS400 as a power tourer and hints at launching the new 400cc motorcycle by March 2016.
Bajaj to start Power Cruiser segment with new Bajaj Pulsar CS40

The trend of leisure motorcycling is fast gaining momentum in India, with international and Indian motorcycle brands cashing in on this latest fad. The casual Sunday morning ride with biker buddies is not just good fun, but two-wheeler manufacturers also see a huge business opportunity here.

Shedding light on this growing two-wheeler phenomenon in India, Eric Vas, President - Motorcycle Business, Bajaj Auto said that the Indian two-wheeler enthusiast has limited options if he’s looking for a weekend cruiser. Not a sports bike with aggressive riding position; neither a naked bike that does not protect the rider from windblast; nor a classic cruiser which is difficult to manage in Indian conditions...  But a new genre of bikes which is comfortable, powerful and desirable to the new breed of Indian bikers - thus creating a new segment altogether in the Indian market termed as Power Cruisers with the new Bajaj Pulsar CS400 (Cruiser Sport).

This will be Bajaj’s first ever 400cc motorcycle in India, with the idea to provide a reliable, easy to run and maintain motorcycle, which can be used for leisure biking and taken on tours and long rides. And what will make the Bajaj Power Cruiser special will be its fairly affordable price tag which we think could be just under Rs 2 lakh.

Like the Ducati the new Pulsar CS400 not to have the classic cruiser styling

With desirable bikes like the Ducati Diavel and Yamaha V-Max on one end of the spectrum which are beyond the reach of most and the classic styled Royal Enfield on the other, Bajaj Auto sees huge potential to bridge this gap with the Pulsar CS400.

Going by the CS400 concept shown by Bajaj Auto during the 2014 Auto Expo, we expect the production version of the Pulsar CS400, like the Diavel, not to have the classic cruiser styling seen on usual Harley-Davidson and Indian cruisers or even the Triumph Bonneville, but a more modern form of motorcycle which still is as comfortable for tireless hours on the road. Keeping that in mind, the single-piece handle bar, not too rear-set foot rests and a conventional single seat of the new Bajaj Pulsar CS400 will add up to create a relaxed riding position ideal for touring and city use.

Bajaj CS400 will have a conventional single seat for comfort

Since the production ready Bajaj CS400 will be very similar to the concept shown at the Auto Expo, we hope it to sport upside down front forks and rear mono shock, tuned for comfort. Like the recently launched Bajaj Pulsar RS200, the new CS400 will also come with front and rear disc brake with the option of ABS.

Without sharing further details about the powertrain, Vas said that to match the masculine form the new Power Cruise will have a new-age powertrain providing enough grunt and performance to thrill the rider. The new Bajaj Pulsar CS400 is speculated to be powered by a fuel injected 375cc single cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, triple spark engine teamed with a six-speed gearbox.

Eric Vas has also confirmed that the new Power Cruise will be launched before the end of March 2016, which could also mean that the new Bajaj Pulsar CS400 may just be unveiled in the forthcoming 2016 Auto Expo.
