When it arrives, the bike will be sold under the Triumph name

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, we’ve seen numerous companies delay their future plans. The latest names to have put their offering on the backburner is Bajaj and Triumph, who have reportedly postponed the launch of their first product under their tie-up by six to nine months. The Bajaj-Triumph bike is now expected to roll out by the end of the 2023 financial year.

Bajaj officials have confirmed that the motorcycle is already in the development stage and that they have readied the prototypes. However, the physical presence of Triumph officials is required to make corrections If any), which isn’t possible due to the travel restrictions in the UK.

Back in 2017, the two brands had announced that they would join hands to produce mid-capacity motorcycles (200cc-700cc). An agreement was signed three years later in 2020.

As part of the tie-up, Bajaj would manufacture Triumph’s small motorcycles in its Akurdi plant in Pune, allowing the British brand to price the offerings aggressively at about Rs 2 lakh (for the entry-level models). This is quite competitive, considering, currently, Triumph’s most affordable motorcycle is the Trident 660, that retails at Rs 6.95 lakh!

Notably, the bikes would be solely sold under the ‘Triumph’ name. This should allow the British brand to establish itself in the lucrative sub-500cc segment, with the first bike aimed at the 300-350cc segment, made to rival the Royal Enfield Classic 350.

Bajaj would handle the sales, export, and distribution of these motorcycles in our country, thanks to its expansive dealership and export network.

The Pune-based brand, in turn, would receive global exposure and certainly benefit from working closely with the British brand. For instance, the Indian giant can take inspiration and create something special like it did with the Dominar 400

Bajaj Triumph Partnership

All in all, this delay is a bummer but nothing out of the ordinary in these testing times. Nevertheless, we’re patiently waiting to see how fruitful Bajaj and Triumph’s partnership will be for us, and more importantly, the entry-level motorcycle segment.

In related news, Royal Enfield is set to launch the 2021 Classic 350 real soon, considering it was spied in a production-ready avatar recently. Also, a new Yezdi bike will have entered the picture by the time Triumph introduces its entry-level motorcycle.
