Bajaj Auto India announced that the new V 15 motorcycle has clocked sales of over 1 lakh units. The Bajaj V 15 was marketed as a motorcycle made from the steel of the INS Vikrant, India’s first aircraft carrier battleship and it seems to have clicked among the masses. What makes the Bajaj V15’s sales even more impressive is the fact that it just took Bajaj four months to cross 1 lakh sales mark. The new 150cc motorcycle had got off to a good start with Bajaj registering bookings of over 20,000 units within the first week of the bike being launched. Such has been the rise of the V15 that it broke into the top-10 highest selling motorcycles in India within two months of its launch.
Commenting on the milestone, Eric Vas, President (Motorcycle Sales), Bajaj Auto Ltd, said “The invincible V was launched with the intent of giving a piece of history to every Indian. We are thrilled with the overwhelming response from the Indian customers. We are ramping up the production by September as we are very positive that these numbers will only continue to grow and sustain the Bajaj V as one of the bestselling premium commuter motorcycles in the country.”
According to Bajaj Auto, the V 15 registers sales of almost 25,000 units on a monthly basis and the motorcycle has allowed the Chakan based two-wheeler giant to increase its stake in the 125cc and above segment by 10 per cent. Among the key reasons for the success of the V 15 can be attributed to its cutthroat pricing of Rs 62,002 (Ex Showroom - Delhi) which makes it the cheapest 150cc displacement motorcycle on sale in the Indian market.
The cafe racer inspired styling and the throaty exhaust note also seems to have attracted buyers towards the new motorcycle. The V 15 also caught the attention of Bollywood star Amir Khan who also acquired a customised version of the 150cc bike. Powering the V 15 is a 149.5cc, single cylinder, DTS-i engine producing 12PS at 7,500 rpm and maximum torque of 13Nm at 5,500rpm. Owing to the rise in demand for the V 15, Bajaj Auto also announced that they are ramping up production of the motorcycle to meet demand.
