Within a few weeks of its official launch, the Bajaj V15 commuter motorcycle has managed to live up to the high standards of marketing that accompanied it. The 150cc bike has broken into the list of the 10 highest selling two-wheelers for the month of April, 2016.
Replacing the Bajaj Discover cousin from the list, the V sold 24,057 units to find itself at the tenth position on the charts. Reports suggested that the bike had garnered thousands of bookings within hours of its launch on March 23; and now, the bike also has the numbers to prove its popularity.
The Bajaj V is currently produced at the manufacturer’s Pantnagar and Waluj plants. While the Indian bike maker had planned on selling 50,000 units of the war-tribute bike in the next 18 months, it only seems a matter of another few weeks going by the latest trends.
Various factors have contributed towards the initial success of the V. Apart from its unique appearance, an aggressive pricing of Rs 62,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and the sentimental connect with the INS-Vikrant, and other war heroes, have definitely helped its cause.
The bike is powered by single-cylinder 149cc motor that is good for 12PS and 13Nm. During our first riding experience with the V, we had predicted the bike to instantly click with the masses and the prophecy seems to turning into reality now.
Coming back to the April 2016 numbers, another new entrant on the list was the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Otherwise the list features largely familiar names with Hero leading the charts and a little bit of Bajaj and Honda strewn here and there.
