Benelli has been quite active in 2019 as it brought the TRK 502 twins as well as the Leoncino 500 to India. We believed that the Italian brand’s next launch at the end of this month was going to be the Imperiale 400. However, it surprised us by silently launching the Leoncino 250 today. So how does the small lion cub from Pesaro look like? Scroll down or keep swiping upwards to check it out.
The Leoncino 500 is a handsome motorcycle with rather appropriate proportions for a 500cc motorcycle. It does not look overly large like other Benellis and this statement holds true for the Leoncino 250 as well.
The slimmer dimensions compliment well with the youthful colours that Benelli offers for the Leoncino 250. Given that Benelli wants to cater to a younger audience with this bike, we think it is a job well done.
What is not amiss on this baby Leoncino is the ‘Lion of Pesaro’ ornament on the mudguard, which on this bike is smaller for obvious reasons.
To keep the younger audiences happy, Benelli has also kitted the 250 with a blue-backlit fully digital LCD panel with several tell-tale signs. It is not as classy as the round cluster found on the larger Leoncino but it does the job.
Keeping with the slim proportions, the oval headlamp housing suits the Leoncino 250’s character. The LED turn indicators are lifted straight off the 500.
Powering the Leoncino 250 is a 249cc single-cylinder motor which we had earlier experienced on the TNT 25. Power and torque figures between the two motorcycles remain the same at 25.8PS and 21Nm. It is not the most powerful bike in its class but it certainly is one of the highest.
The level of kit on offer is also pretty basic. Considering that this bike is meant to be an entry-level product, the 41mm USD fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock should do the trick just fine.
Braking duties are handled by a single 280mm rotor with a twin-piston caliper on the front wheel while the rear wheel gets a single-piston unit operating on a 240mm disc. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard.
Even though the Leoncino 250 is Benelli’s most affordable motorcycle on sale in India, it’s price tag of Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom India) is on the higher side. For the same amount, you could get yourself more potent motorcycles like the KTM 390 Duke or the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
