  • Bentley’s first two plug-in hybrid vehicles will be launched in 2021.

  • This will be followed by its first electric vehicle in 2025.

  • Bentley’s entire lineup to consist of hybrid vehicles by 2026 and purely electric vehicles by 2030.

Bentley Motors has announced some lofty aspirations for electrification by 2030. This includes work on plans which will ensure an end-to-end carbon neutral state by the end of this decade. And the carmaker has outlined some of the steps towards the end goal, starting from 2021 itself.

Bentley plans to launch two new PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) next year, with the British carmaker also confident that its entire lineup will consist of hybrid vehicles, PHEVs and BHEVs, by 2026. This is followed  by complete electrification of its lineup by 2030. Bentley also plans to launch its first fully electric vehicle by 2025.

Other than introducing new models, Bentley also aims to reduce its production’s carbon footprint. The carmaker, like Volkswagen, wants to achieve more than the two degree target set by the Paris Climate Agreement. Based on numbers from 2010, the carmaker also aims to reduce plastic waste by 75 percent by 2025. Progress on this front has already been achieved, as Bentley’s home production facility at Crewe has already been declared carbon neutral.

This follows as part of Bentley’s Beyond100 ideology, a sustainable plan set for what the brand should stand for post its 100-year anniversary since its inception in 1919. With global warming, and rising pollution levels affecting the world, carmakers need to take the initiative to reduce the carbon footprint from their end. Good on you, Bentley.
