With 2020 just a couple of days away, we look back at all the interesting developments of 2019. Although the industry is going through the worst slowdown in 20 years, the atmosphere remains optimistic with quite a lot of plans for next year. From what we’ve seen over the years, automotive aesthetics are taking a backseat with modern cars tilting more towards the drab side of things. Nevertheless, we still got our fair share of ravishing cars last year. Here are some of them:
Renault Kwid Facelift
The Kwid was already a charming entry-level hatchback, to begin with. Renault has improved upon the formulae with a sleek front-end that now features a split-headlamp setup seen on more expensive cars. The new face also lends the Kwid a new identity, which helps it make it to this list.
Kia Seltos
The most-successful debut of this year, the Kia Seltos, has a lot going for it. A wide range of engine-transmission options, attractive features, good looks and stellar pricing are what makes the Seltos a winner. You can never go wrong with the Seltos if grabbing eyeballs is your focus. But if outright road presence is what you seek, you should take a look at the next car on this list.
Tata Harrier
Tata’s sharp Impact 2.0 design language has worked its magic with the Harrier, which turned out to be one of the most good-looking SUVs we saw this year. The Harrier’s got massive road presence and size coupled with a dash of modern design elements. The Harrier is also a prime example of how a concept/design sketch should be brought to life without losing the Aura.
Honda Civic
The previous-gen Civic (FD) was the sportiest-looking sedan in its segment when it was launched back in 2006. Matching that would be an arduous task, but Honda has almost nailed it with the new Civic. The sedan carries over its sporty underpinnings combined with a brilliant chassis. But there are times we wish it had more poke.
Jaguar XE Facelift
It goes without saying that Jaguar makes some of the most pretty-looking cars today. The latest from the Brits is the facelifted XE, which was launched a couple of weeks ago. The XE facelift takes it up further with subtle-yet-tasteful revisions to make it one of the good-looking entry-level luxury sedans.
BMW Z4
The Z4 has come a long way from its early uninspiring styling to the current desirable status as a roadster. Sharing its platform with the heavily criticised MKV GR Supra, the G29 Z4 carries all the design traits to deem it worthy of its open-top roadster image. Thankfully, it also gets an okayish sized kidney grille further helping its case.
Huracan Evo Spyder
What’s prettier than a Lamborghini Huracan Evo? Huracan Evo Spyder. And the convertible version of Lamborghini’s baby wedge is also better than the coupe counterpart if you want some wind in your hair. Even more so if you prefer to listen to odd-firing 10 cylinders suck, squeeze and bang without forcing the air. Price for a ticket to this orchestra? Rs 4.10 crore.
