[BGauss has unveiled two new electric scooters called the A2 and B8. Know more details, launch timeline and expected prices here.]
RR Global is a Mumbai-based conglomerate catering to the electric industry under various sub-brands. It deals with electrical cables, busduct systems, consumer electricals, and also offers electromechanical parking solutions among other things. This company is all set to enter the Indian electric two-wheeler space under the sub-brand BGauss. It plans to launch not one but two electric two-wheelers, both of which are likely to be scooters.
One will be under the high-speed category and will offer a top speed of 85kmph-90kmph. It will be priced at around Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.40 lakh, depending on the variant. The other scooter range will be more affordable, with an estimated pricing of around Rs 50,00 to Rs 90,000, offering a top speed of around 50kmph. There will be five variants in total.
The company says the manufacturing and assembly of the electric scooters have already begun at its plant in Chakan, near Pune. The company aims to produce 80,000 units in the financial year 2020-21, as a part of its operations in the first phase. BGauss says it will have a presence (both sales and service) in the southern and western parts of India first. Expect it to be available in states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in its first phase of operations.
One of the electric scooters has also been teased. The styling is a little boxy, but it’s been designed to look sleek enough to pass off as a modern electric scooter. The lighting system appears to be all-LED and the tail lamp is oddly reminiscent of the Honda Activa 6G. It gets a telescopic front fork with a front disc for optimum braking. The rear wheel appears to house a hub motor and is linked to a shock absorber. Another notable feature mentioned by the brand is Internet Of Things (IoT) connectivity. With all these features, it seems to be the perfect rival to the Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450X and the TVS iQube Electric.
While the company has not revealed any official specifications, we can expect an announcement soon. As you might have recalled from physics classes in school, Gauss is a unit to measure magnetic induction -- a basic principle used in electric motors. It’s symbolised by B, and this is how the company got its name.
