BMW is all set to launch the facelifted version of its flagship sedan, the 7 Series, here in India today.
At first glance, the facelifted 2013 BMW 7 Series looks identical to the car currently on sale. Look closer and the new LED headlights, revised front grille, new lower air dam and new fog lamps can be seen. Around the back, much remains the same apart from a strip of chrome running from the reflectors at either end on the lower section of the bumper. When viewed from the side, the only changes are side indicators integrated into the rear view mirrors and new alloy wheels.
Interior changes include narrower front seats for a more airy feel inside the cabin, more insulation to provide an even more silent ride, a new 1,200 watt Bang and Olufsen surround sound system hooked to 16 speakers, new leather for the seats, a redesigned multifunctional instrument display with different colour displays for different driving modes, needless to say the car will come with an exhaustive options list as well.
BMW will initially offer the 730Ld version of the 2013 7 Series here in India and it is expected to be priced between Rs 87-95 lakh, ex showroom Delhi.
The 3.0 litre six cylinder diesel engine along with its turbocharger in the new 730Ld have been reworked to deliver 261PS of power at 4,000rpm and 560Nm of torque which kicks in at a low 1,500rpm. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that allows the car to go from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.
The petrol powered 740Li is said to have been made 25 per cent more efficient than its predecessor, however, it is not expected to be launched in India at the moment.
The 2013 BMW 7 Series will take on the likes of the Audi A8 L 3.0 TDI, Jaguar XJ 3.0 and the Mercedes-Benz S Class S 350 L in the battle for the ultimate diesel luxury limousine.
