BMW has unveiled the compact sedan concept at the 2015 Auto Guangzhou show. The new concept car is essentially based on the 2 series active tourer platform and will make it to India soon after the launch of the production version in international markets. The new compact sedan from BMW will be put up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA and the Audi A3.
The new BMW compact sedan follows the BMW design philosophy that is seen on the likes of the other larger sedans and coupes. The car of course gets the familiar kidney shaped grilles up front along with muscular haunches on the bonnet and fenders typing up nicely with the vented front bumper. The concept car also gets a set of huge alloy wheels which logically will not make it to production. Around the rear, the new car will also get a set of familiar tail lights based loosely on the 3 and 3 series design and a sporty bumper combination.
Although not much is known about the car, the new compact sedan from BMW should be based on the 2 Series Active tourer platform which will mean that just like the next generation 1 Series hatchback, the sedan too will become a front wheel drive layout. Expect the cars to also get the petrol and diesel motors from the Mini range of vehicles with a hotter 1M version possibly packing in an all-wheel-drive drivetrain in the most expensive variants. We also expect the car to get the BMW 1 Series nomenclature globally. Expect the car in India to be priced at about Rs 25-35 lakhs and to do quite well with the younger luxury car buyer segments.
