If recent reports are any indication, BMW Motorrad seems to be cooking up something interesting in their labs. Leaked images and documents from emission tests suggest that the company is working on a new 400cc scooter.
So what are we talking about? Well, the leaked images suggest that the upcoming scooter will be heavily inspired by the company’s other scooter offering, the C400X.
Likely to be called the C400GT, it will replace the C400X's GS-inspired design for a more conventional look. So say goodbye to the (in)famous asymmetrical headlamp design, which will be replaced with a conventional unit this time around. It also gets a more spacious seat and a wider front fairing for a more comfortable ride. It also features a tall windscreen and reworked body panels.
However, things aren't very different under the skin. The scooter packs the same 350cc, single-cylinder motor as the C400X. This motor is capable of churning out 33.99PS of power at 7500rpm and 35Nm of torque at 6000rpm and is paired to a CVT.
The C400GT will also feature the same chassis as the C400X. Other cycle parts are expected to remain the same too. This means the conventional 35mm forks at the front and the twin-shock unit at the rear will be carried over. It will also feature disc brakes on both ends. Like the C400X, the 15-inch front and 14-inch rear wheel are expected to be shod with 120/70 and 150/70-section rubber.
Sadly, all this equipment will come at a premium. Add to the fact that Indian two-wheeler buyers are still unfamiliar with the concept of maxi-scooters, there is little to no possibility of it coming to our shores anytime soon.
