BMW G 310 RR: What We’d Like To See

After the BMW G 310 R’s global unveil, there were numerous speculations on whether BMW will also create a supersport offering using the same motor. While everyone’s still waiting for that to happen, the Chinese have taken matters into their own hands and have turned a G 310 R into a track-only race bike which takes inspiration from, you guessed it, the BMW S 1000 RR!
So how was this project achieved? Well, firstly, the makers of the G 310 R race bike got rid of all the unnecessary bits like the all-LED headlamp, taillight, indicators, and seats. With that out of the way, in came the race fairing inspired from the BMW S 1000 RR’s tri-colour livery, a much-needed bubble visor, a race-spec foam seat, and a sharp tail section.
Moreover, while the road-going G 310 R comes with a conventional handlebar, mid-mounted footpegs and Michelin tyres, the race bike gets a low-slung clip-on setup with billet-type rear-set footpegs and slicks.
But what about performance? Surprisingly, the G 310 R race bike is actually down in performance compared to the BS6 BMW G 310 R. This is because the Chinese-spec G 310 R puts out 28PS in its standard avatar and even though this race bike gets a Vanhool full system exhaust, the peak power probably isn’t more than the BS6 G 310 R’s 34PS.
Apart from these changes, the rest of the components remain unbothered. The G 310 R continues to employ the same tubular frame sprung on the same beefy golden USD fork and monoshock. Even the alloy wheels, switchgear, and the LCD instrument cluster have all remained as is.
As exciting as all this sounds, us Indians will probably never get our hands on this, since this is only available at Zhuhai Circuit in China, where it’s used to provide track training.
Nevertheless, we hope someone here gets inspired from this build to create something like this in India. Until then, one can always get the home-cooked TVS Apache RR 310. Meanwhile, for people with track licenses, the Hosur-based bikemaker also has the RR 310 one-make championship, where you get to swing a leg over the RR 310’s race version!
