“Rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle” is the mantra BMW will follow to offer a sustainable yet luxurious future

German carmaker BMW has revealed the i Vision Circular concept at the Munich Motor Show (IAA), a 4-seater compact electric vehicle that is expected to hit the roads in 2040. While the actual vehicle might not look anything like the concept shown today, the i Vision Circular resembles luxury in the future, but in a rather sustainable manner.

By that we mean the i Vision Circular is made of completely recycled materials that can once again be recycled at the end of the vehicle’s life, including its battery pack. Furthermore, BMW has also reduced the amount of material used in designing the car. The overall size of the car is within four metres, and there’s no paint on the body to that effect. Instead, its main body is made from secondary aluminium with a light gold anodised finish.

The headlights are integrated into the face of the concept, and the signature BMW kidney grille is now made up of LED lights. It can be used to make up different shapes as well. The windshield of the vehicle extends to become a roof and the rear end gets a single light bar to forge a similar effect.

The doors of the i Vision Circular are hinged towards either ends of the vehicle, so as to give better access. The interior is designed like a living room, and space has been maximised for opponents. The dashboard doesn’t feature any displays, instead being moved to the windscreen in front of the driver. All connectivity options can be controlled from here, and can be moved in or out of the user's sight depending on their preference. Overall, the interior has been designed to resemble a living room, and BMW has done well to generate space on the inside.

The BMW i Vision Circular stands for a circular economy and its four pillars are: rethink, reuse, reduce and recycle. The German carmaker plans to introduce future products with this philosophy in mind, and has set its sights on becoming a sustainable luxury carmaker for the future.
