  • BMW has an entire range of stylish apparel to go along with the scooter.
  • Notable features include lighting on gear for safety and an inductive wireless phone charger in the parka.
  • BMW Motorrad is one brand that loves thinking out of the box. And the results are usually one of a kind. The brand has been showing its future lineup through its #NEXTGen 2020 platform, and one of the concepts that’s on display is the Definition CE 04, a scooter that could change the face of future mobility in its segment. It's been designed to act as a link between the analogue and digital worlds of the user.

The highlight of the scooter has to be its slim skateboard-like chassis. The absence of a fuel tank means the designers were able to play around with the visual mass of the scooter. This results in a lean rear section with a floating bench seat that sits quite low to the ground, thus offering an accessible seat height. As for the battery pack, it sits inside the floorboard, which results in a better centre of gravity. The electric motor is positioned near the rear wheel for a conventional look.

The rider's cockpit is dominated by a massive 10.25-inch screen that syncs with his or her smartphone. The Bavarian brand has even envisioned an entire range of rider apparel that will not only go along with the scooter but also offer proper safety. Interestingly, the gear will have lighting for better visibility at night and an inductive wireless phone charger in the parka.

The Definition CE 04 is still a concept at this stage. It could, however, be turned into a production model without much of a hassle if BMW’s history is anything to go by. While most manufacturers are sticking to conventional electric scooter designs for more acceptability, BMW’s pushing the envelope with radical ideas, and that’s a good thing.

We can’t wait to see what the future of transportation has in store for us.
