BMW has launched the new R 1250 RT overseas. The sports tourer gets a new look and a host of feature updates. It even ushers in radar-based cruise control technology as an option. That makes it the first production motorcycle to feature this tech, effectively beating the Ducati Multistrada V4 which gets similar tech but is yet to be launched.
The sports tourer gets a new, more aerodynamic fairing. It now features an all-LED headlamp with adaptive cornering lights. It comes in three variants: Elegance, Sport and Option 719 which gets a white paint job with blue stripes. Features include a new 10.25-inch colour TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth. It even gets a new audio system. The adaptive cruise control uses radar to detect vehicles and objects around the motorcycle and adjust speed accordingly.
The Euro-5 compliant 1245cc Boxer twin motor delivers 136PS at 7750 rpm and 143 Nm at 6250 rpm. It features ShiftCam technology similar to the one on the R 1250 GS. The motor uses variable valve timing for power across the rev range. It now gets 3 riding modes including a new Eco rider mode as standard and an additional Dynamic rider mode as an option. While traction control and cornering ABS are standard, rider aids such as Engine Drag Control and Hill Start Control Pro are optional extras. You can also opt for the Dynamic ESA electronic suspension fully automatic load compensation.
