BMW Motorrad will be launching its first cruiser offering for the Indian market tomorrow. Bookings for the BMW R18 commenced a few weeks back and the cruiser will now make its official debut tomorrow. While BMW hasn’t shared the pricing, our sources say the R18 could retail for around Rs 20 to Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s also rumoured that only 30 units of the bike have been reserved for India and almost 20 have been spoken for before the launch. Also Read: BMW R 18: All You Need To Know
Despite its high retail price and the economic slowdown due to COVID-19, it’s easy to understand why the BMW R 18 has been lapped up by cruiser aficionados. The BMW cruiser with its sensuous curvy lines is among the most beautiful motorcycles to be unveiled in 2020. The R18’s styling is based on the legendary BMW R5. What further adds to its appeal is that the R18 is the first cruiser offering from the German brand in 16 years. Also Read: Radical BMW Electric Bike In The Works
Apart from the gorgeous design, another highlight of the BMW R18 is its engine. With a 1,802cc air-cooled behemoth of an engine, it has the distinction of being the largest displacement boxer motor to go in production. The engine produces a decent 91PS, but the highlight is the 158Nm of torque -- of which over 150Nm is made available under 4,000rpm!
BMW engineers have also equipped the cruiser with electronic assistance such as three riding modes, traction control system, cruise control and hill start control. The BMW R18 also gets a reverse gear but it might be skipped for the India-spec bike, however, we will wait till the launch for a confirmation. Also Read: BS6 Baby Beemers Bookings Open
